60133 miles - PJ Grady 12/96
and
61208 miles - PJ Grady 01/97

The first stop at Grady's was because the car overheated one night when I picked it up from valet parking at Newark airport.  Fearing a leaking radiator, I had the car trailered to Grady's.   Since I knew I would be away for a week in Jan, I made a follow-up appointment for the 60,000 mi. major tune-up.

Dec, 1996 - Find overheating problem, fix the A/C mode switch, and check the front-end shimmy.
Overheating: They really didn't ever find anything major that might have caused the overheating.  They re-torqued the head to minimize a small water leak at the head gasket and adjusted the valve clearance. The air filter got replaced since it was dirty.
A/C-heater mode switch: Rebuilt the pneumatic A/C mode switch.
Front end shimmy:  Re-attached R/H stabilizer clamp (the bolt had fallen out) and re-torqued/loctite the remaining bolts.
Replace the engine cover stay/prop:   I broke it by forcing the cover. Blame the owner, not the car! I forgot about the simple latch!.  Stupid me!  The $50 replacement will teach me not to forget next time!

Jan, 1997 - 60,000 mi. major service.

60,000 mi service: This calls for replacement of ignition wires, distributor cap & rotor, spark plugs, fuel filter (air filter too, but that was new!), lambda oxygen sensor, and A/C- starter- and generator-belts. The brake system was flushed, and the CO emissions adjusted to spec. The parts-kit alone cost $300, about twice what it used to cost for the same tune-up on my wife's 1979 Volvo ten years ago.  Not too bad, all things considered!

Jan 1997 - Other problems which were discovered.
Play in the steering: Replaced rack-and-pinion steering rack (a flange was broken) with a Grady-rebuilt one. The tie-rod ends were replaced, along with the stabilizer-bar bushings.
Rear training arm bolt slightly bent: Replaced.
Radiator end caps leaking: After my overheating experience, I had it replaced with a brass one.
Clutch slave cylinder leaking: Replaced.
Squeaking brakes: They replaced the front pads and de-glazed the rotors (N/C).
