The "John Z" Character for Microsoft® Agent 2.0

Microsoft's Agent Technology is exciting and fun.  I'm sure we will see more of it in the future. (Click here to learn more about it.) If you have a little time, I invite you to explore my first attempts at using this technology, but first.....

Good News

Several people have asked about putting JohnZ on their computer. As of now, he is only available as an asf file. This means that he can only be displayed on web pages, and must be downloaded each time from this website. A hard disk crash wiped out the source! :(

The good news is that I have recently found the source for a fairly recent version of JohnZ and, when I find the time, I will convert him to an acs file that you can use on your desktop! The question now is -- "When will I find the time?"

If you don't have Microsoft Agent 2.0, you may either download it and return here when it is installed, or I can try to install it automatically for you. You will need to download and install the "core components" (400 K). Be sure you install the L&H Tru-Voice text-to-speech engine (1 MB) also so you can hear him speak.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater.
You can download Internet Explorer from Microsoft by following this link.
(I'm sorry Netscape fans, Microsoft Agent requires Internet Explorer.)

  • A sound card and speakers.
